Homemade Cranberry Sauce

Ingredients:
1 cup water
1 cup sugar
4 cups fresh or frozen cranberries
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon (optional)
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg (optional)
Zest of 1 orange (optional)
METHOD:
Syrup: In a medium saucepan, combine the water and sugar. Bring to a boil, stirring to dissolve the sugar.
Cranberries: Add the cranberries to the boiling syrup. Return to a boil, then reduce the heat and simmer for about 10 mins, or until the cranberries burst and the sauce thickens.
Stir in the ground cinnamon, nutmeg, and orange zest if using. Simmer for another 1-2 mins.
Remove from heat and let the sauce cool to room temperature. It will continue to thicken as it cools. Serve chilled or at room temperature. Cool and serve.
Can be used with a variety of meats, poultry, baking…etc
